Reconnect is a not-for-profit organisation that creates opportunities

for unemployed/ underemployed professional refugees to return to their professions

Often the only thing refugees are able to carry with them is their experience and any specific skills they may have been trained in. Reconnect seeks to nurture these skills through organising training and work experience, to enable refugees to regain their confidence, and to overcome some of the barriers to their employment in the UK as well as in developing countries.

Creating opportunities for helping developing countries

Reconnect creates opportunities for professional refugees to contribute to the

long-term help that people in developing countries desperately need

Many skilled refugees have experienced first-hand the conditions and problems the communities in developing countries have to face.  Consequently these are often the very people best-placed to provide the skills  developing countries need. Ironically, these are the same skills that developing   countries have invested their scarce resources in, and, as a result of displacement, are now robbed of the opportunity to utilise these skills to help themselves (often referred to as 'brain-drain'). Reconnect seeks to create opportunities for refugees to provide developing countries with these much needed skills.

Promoting awareness about the underlying causes of displacement

Reconnect draws attention to the causes and consequences of people

being displaced from developing countries

Reconnect provides a forum for refugees to enable them to share their knowledge and experiences with the wider public, promoting awareness about the issues of displacement and development and seeks to transform the negative impact of displacement into a positive experience.
