  • In 2004 Reconnect has deliverered of a pilot training programme, in partnership with the Commonwealth Journalists Association, for refugee Journalists drawing on the expertise of academics and practioners including the BBC World Service and the Financial Times;

 

 

  • In 2006, in partnership with Thames Valley University, Reconnect has successfully delivered, a Video Production Training Programme for 10 refugees in the core skills of video production, equipping them with the technical skills and knowledge they need to product broadcast-quality documentaries. The programme was funded with the support of Lloyds TSB Foundations of England and Wales.

 

  • In partnership with Lifelong Learning Team at the Faculty of Continuing Education, Birkbeck, University of London, Reconnect has successfully delivered a Postgraduate level teacher training programme "Passport to Teaching Plus" for 14 refugees with graduate or professional qualifications to enable them to gain entry into further training and employment as teachers or lecturers in the post compulsory sector. This innovative project was funded by the Home Office Refugee Integration Challenge Fund.
     
  • As part of the London Hub for refugee teachers/ Employability forum, Reconnect is currently engaged in a job brokerage - a taster project that aims to support a minimum of 8 job-ready refugee teachers who have successfully completed the post-graduate certificate course in further education at Birkbeck, University of London,  into employment in the  further education sector, with the support of mentors and relevant specialists from further education, including refugee teachers currently teaching and in collaboration with the London Hub and other partners.

 

  • Reconnect is currently partnering with the Institute of Education, University of London to implement a teacher training project. The project offers an opportunity for refugees to enable them to gain a Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in Post-Compulsory Education (Further Education, Adult and Community Colleges).  The project aims to recruit approximately 50 trainees in two cohorts starting in spring 2008 and ending in summer 2010.  The project is funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families through the London Hub for Refugee Teachers/ Employability Forum.

 

  • In September 2006, Reconnect has successfully undertaken a 10K race "Run for your Life" at Hyde Park to raise awareness and funding. Over 300 participants took part in the race.

 

  • Reconnect is Currently working on the establishment of self-help support groups (Refugee Development Groups for refugee journalists and  refugee teachers) among unemployed , underemployed and employed refugees, the memberships of which also include members of the established UK community;

 

  • In 2007 Reconnect has been awarded a three years grant from European Union Capacity Building project to facilitate the building of refugees’ capacity in London and the South East to broaden their engagement in global issues. As part of this project Reconnect has organised three major events to date, which include refugee week events on 20 June 2007 and 2008 and a symposium on conflict Displacement in partnership with the Centre for Conflict Resolution.
