In commemoration of WORLD REFUGEE DAY, 17 June 2009

Education for Development – Refugee trainee teachers @ IOE

In commemoration of the World Refugee Day Reconnect and the Institute of Education (IOE) organised a successful evening at the Institute of Education attended by about 150 people. The theme of event was “Education for Development”. The event was enriched by a series of poems by students and a participant from a refugee community and fantastic traditional music/ dance performances by Inti Shungu, Ecuadorian Group and BZ Ethiopian Traditional Band.

 The event brought together people from diverse backgrounds and cultures to celebrate something they share. As one of the attendees put it: 

“It was wonderful hearing from and speaking to people who have had to struggle through life only to know that they have achieved their goal and are ready to teach in both the UK and abroad in developing countries, proving that there are opportunities and that with dedication you can achieve your goals.”
